The proudest prince must someday heave a sigh
as from his flesh his intellect is riven,
and even the lowly moth or butterfly
must let the light that killed it be forgiven.
There are worse fates than to depart unshriven.
I’ve been too distant. I have been too shy
to take and drain the chalice I’ve been given.
And yet, I always did abhor a lie
devised by minds to desperation driven.
This blazing world is difficult to live in.
